Deshawn Jones Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Deshawn Jones to Warden at Rutledge State Prison, effective December 1, 2020. As Warden, Jones will be responsible for overseeing 143 staff at the facility and approximately 610 medium-security male offenders.

“Jones has shown remarkable leadership skills in each position he has held within the agency,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will benefit the staff and offenders at Rutledge State Prison.”

Jones began his career with the Department in 2006 as a Correctional Officer at Lee Arrendale State Prison (LASP). During his tenure at LASP, he was placed on the Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT) and was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant, CERT Commander, Assistant Commander of the Statewide Honor Guard, Lieutenant, and Diagnostic Director.  In 2016, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at Lee Arrendale Transitional Center, and in 2018 he was promoted to Superintendent at Atlanta Transitional Center, where he currently serves.

Jones is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree from Shorter University.  He has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, CERT Basic Training, Sergeants Academy, Basic Management Training, Professional Management Program, POST Instructor Training, Effective Communication Training, Deputy Warden’s Academy, Warden’s Pre-Command Academy, Leadership GDC, and National Honor Guard Academy.
