Fourteen Offenders receive Certificate

FORSYTH, Ga. –  The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) in partnership with Wiregrass Georgia Technical College held a graduation ceremony on April 4th to honor 14 graduates of the Diesel Truck Maintenance Technician program at Telfair State Prison.  The offenders in the program receive certifications in Diesel Truck Maintenance which focuses on basic diesel mechanics preventative maintenance.

“We appreciate the partnerships which allow offenders an opportunity to learn skills that will aide them in obtaining a job when they are released,” said Timothy C. Ward, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Corrections. “I am proud of all the graduates who chose to use their time wisely and dedicate themselves to the pursuit of education.”

During the program, the offenders learn about automotive tools, safety, rear ends, air conditioners, and drive lines. In the future, the program will also cover the basics of diesel mechanics engines. The next class will host 30 offenders and will run two days a week. Due to the increase in class size, the program will now be extended to a year-long.
