Phil Hall Reassigned

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the reassignment of Phil Hall from Warden of Calhoun State Prison, to Warden at Telfair State Prison effective January 1, 2016. As Warden, Hall will be responsible for overseeing 305 staff members and 1,408 male inmates at the facility located in Helena.

“Phil has faithfully served the Department for more than 30 years,” said Commissioner Bryson. “He brings a wealth of knowledge that will greatly benefit the staff and inmates at Telfair State Prison.”

Hall began his career with the Department in 1985 as a Correctional Officer at Dodge State Prison. In 1993, he was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Wilcox State Prison in 1995 where he served as Lieutenant. In 2006, Hall was promoted to Captain and to Unit Manager in 2007. In 2012, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security of Wilcox State Prison where he most recently served.

Hall holds an Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Thomas University. He has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Professional Management Program (PMP), Law Enforcement PMP, Advanced Management Training, Pre-Command and Corrections Leadership Institute.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
