New Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment Named at Emanuel Women's Facility

Whitney East-Hendrix Promoted

Forsyth — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Whitney East-Hendrix from Chief Counselor at Montgomery State Prison to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Emanuel Women’s Facility effective September 16, 2015. East-Hendrix will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of more than 375 female inmates.

“Whitney has gained valuable leadership experience in her 14 years with the Department,” said Commissioner Bryson. “We look forward to the knowledge she will bring with her to Emanuel Women’s Facility.”

East-Hendrix began her career with the Department in 2001 as a Counselor at Montgomery State Prison. In 2009, she was promoted to Chief Counselor at Montgomery State Prison where she currently serves.

Whitney received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University. Her departmental training consists of Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training and Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment Academy.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
