Artistry of Ware Woodworking Program
FORSYTH, Ga. – Continuing our mission to provide opportunities for positive change for offenders, the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is highlighting facility events, specialized units, offender education and training programs across the state in our Real Time, Reel Life video series. These brief videos showcase the experiences of staff and participants in these units and programs.
New videos are released regularly, and are available to view through the GDC YouTube Channel at GACorrections. In this month’s video, we go to Ware State Prison in Waycross, Ga. to take a look at the art and artistry of woodworking done by offenders in the woodworking program. Offenders craft a range of items, from artistic pieces to fine furniture for state and local government agencies. Rivaling anything you would see in a commercial furniture catalog, the furniture crafted is a reflection of the skill and ingenuity of offenders participating in the program. They leave the program with a technical certificate in cabinetry – a great first step in securing employment in Georgia’s construction industry upon their release.
