Warden Reassignment at Phillips State Prison

Cedric Taylor Reassigned
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the reassignment of Cedric Taylor to Warden at Phillips State Prison, effective January 1, 2018. As the Warden, Taylor will be responsible for overseeing 375 staff members and 851 close security male offenders.
“Taylor has shown great leadership skills in each position he has held in his 26 years,” said Commissioner Dozier. “We look forward to his continued leadership in carrying out the Department’s mission at his new facility.”
Taylor began his career with the Department in 1992 as a Correctional Officer at Hays State Prison. He was promoted to Sergeant at Hays State Prison in 1995, and in 1998, he was promoted to Training Instructor for the Special Operations Training Unit. In 2007, he returned to Hays State Prison as Deputy Warden of Security. He rejoined Special Operations in 2009 as Manager, overseeing the Canine Units, Emergency Response Teams and Tactical Squads. In 2010, he was promoted to Warden at Autry State Prison, and in 2012 was reassigned to Valdosta State Prison in the same capacity. In 2013, Taylor joined the Department of Juvenile Justice and served as the Director of Augusta Youth Detention Center. The following year, he returned to GDC to serve as Warden of Baldwin State Prison, where he currently serves.
Taylor received an Associates Degree from Marion Military Institute and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Thomas University. He also attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he played football.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
