Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,360 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On October 3 at Ware State Prison, an unauthorized vehicle was parked on the facility’s private property. A search found the vehicle’s driver on the facility’s wood line. Civilian Markus Hayes consented to a search of the vehicle and bundles wrapped in tape were recovered. Civilian Hayes was arrested and transported to Ware County Jail.
On October 1 at Baldwin State Prison, a shakedown in the control room found the following contraband: a cellphone, cellphone chargers, a homemade weapon, tobacco, a lighter. Sargent Jacquan Pennamon was arrested and transported to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s office.
