Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,179 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On February 24 at Telfair State Prison, visitor Jasmine Turman was arrested after consenting to a search. Security staff discovered 1 cell phone charger, 1 cell phone and a small package of suspected marijuana wrapped in black electrical tape. Visitor Turman was arrested by the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office.

On February 21 at Valdosta State Prison, security staff observed an unidentified female exit a vehicle near the facility. During a search of the area, security staff discovered an unopened bag containing contraband. The unidentified female was arrested by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

On February 16 at Rogers State Prison, Officer Dy’Quareous Hackett admitted to having 645 grams of tobacco during a search conducted by security staff. Officer Hackett was arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
