Contraband Arrests at Multiple State Prisons
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,162 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On December 2 at Telfair State Prison, the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office stopped and searched a vehicle near the facility. They discovered 2 1 liter bottles wrapped in clear plastic, which contained 4 touch screen cell phones, 3 flip cell phones, 6 chargers, 6 cigarettes and 254 grams of tobacco. Christopher Glover, Patrick Carter and a juvenile were arrested by the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office.
On December 2 at Wilcox State Prison, an Offender was leaving visitation when security staff performed a routine search of his person. Security staff discovered one bundle containing 52 grams of marijuana and another bundle with 248 grams of tobacco. Visitor Chandle Smith was arrested by Abbeville Police Department.
On December 2 at Georgia State Prison, visitor Annamaria Barton attempted to enter the facility, but quickly returned to her vehicle after noticing security staff questioning another visitor. Security staff reported the incident to the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office. The Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office searched Barton’s vehicle and discovered 1 gram of methamphetamine, 5 Xanax pills, 0.5 ounces of marijuana and a 9mm handgun. Visitor Barton was arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
On December 2 at Georgia State Prison, visitor Kaiara Owens attempted to enter the facility when security staff noticed a bulge on her person. After questioning, she admitted to having contraband and handed over two bundles wrapped in black tape. Visitor Owens was arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
On December 2 at Georgia State Prison, visitor Joya Briggs attempted to enter the facility when security staff noticed a bulge on her person. After questioning, she admitted to having contraband and handed over two bundles wrapped in black tape. Visitor Briggs was arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
On December 1 at Rogers State Prison, Marquita Davis, a Food Service employee, was arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office due to an ongoing investigation.
On November 29 at Rogers State Prison, Food Service employee Brittney Ponder attempted to enter the facility when security staff smelled marijuana. After a search, security staff discovered 185 grams of marijuana, 348 ecstasy pills and 50 Xanax pills. Ponder was arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
