Contraband Arrest at Multiple State Prisons

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,039 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On March 3 at Montgomery State Prison, Officers conducted a traffic stop at the Joe Kennedy Farm detail site.  Visitors Renee Sue and Lisa Owenby were stopped and found to have 3 cans of smokeless tobacco, 3 rolls of black tape, 1 box of plastic bags, and 24 ounces of tobacco. Visitors Sue and Owenby were arrested by GDC Office of Professional Standards and Toombs County Sheriff’s Office.  They were transported to Toombs County Jail.

On March 3 at Dooly State Prison, a vehicle with two males were driving on a dirt road adjacent to the facility when they were stopped and searched.  The officers discovered 2 handguns, 13 plastic bottles containing 13 cell phones, an unknown amount of marijuana and an unknown amount of tobacco.  The two males were arrested and taken to Dooly County Sheriff's Office.

On March 3 at Valdosta State Prison, an officer detected a marijuana smell coming from visitor Uniqua Davis-Hammonds. Visitor Davis-Hammond confessed that there was contraband in the infant’s diaper that was with her. The contraband consisted of 4 balloons containing 26 grams of marijuana.  After searching visitor Davis-Hammond’s vehicle 4 balloons containing an unknown amount of marijuana and 3 green dot cards were discovered.  A warrant for visitor Davis-Hammonds has been issued.

On March 2 at Macon State Prison, visitor Ashely Thomas and a juvenile attempted to enter the facility, when the Sergeant discovered a small package taped to the lower back of the juvenile.  The package consisted of 58.39 grams of marijuana wrapped in duct tape.  After a search of visitor Thomas’ vehicle, they discovered 3 cell phones, 13 prepaid phone cards and 1 roll of duct tape.  Visitor Thomas was arrested by Macon County Sheriff’s Office.
