Contraband Arrest at Calhoun State Prison and Montgomery State Prison

As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 1,021 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On January 4 at Calhoun State Prison, security staff observed a suspicious vehicle near the facility.  Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist with patrolling the area, when they observed two civilians getting into a vehicle.  After questioning the civilians, they discovered contraband consisting of 39 balls of an unknown substance, 2 flat screen cellphones, 2 flip cell phones, 10 cell phone chargers, and a cigarette lighter.  Civilians Malik Ricketts, Joseph Fountain, and two unidentified females were arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office

On January 5 at Calhoun State Prison, a staff member received an anonymous tip that Food Service Worker, Kierra Fields was bringing in contraband.  When Food Service Fields arrived, she was searched and found to have nine bundles of an unknown substance, wrapped in electrical tape, on her person.  Food Service Fields was placed under arrest by Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.

On January 7 at Montgomery State Prison, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle and recovered 4 packs of bugler tobacco and an unknown amount of marijuana inside the tobacco packs.  Civilians Felicia Freeman and Crystal Murray were arrested by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
