Contraband Arrest at Ware State Prison
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 846 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On August 28, at Ware State Prison, visitor Regina Blackshear attempted to enter the front bunker when security staff detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from her person. She was searched and no contraband was found. Due to the strong odor of marijuana, security staff made contact with Ware County Sheriff's Office. Ware County Sheriff's Department conducted a search of Blackshear’s vehicle and an ounce of marijuana was discovered. Visitor Blackshear was arrested by Ware County Sheriff’s Department.
