Contraband Arrest at Valdosta State Prison
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 845 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On August 21, at Valdosta State Prison, Food Service Worker Gale Gillard was entering the facility but could not clear the metal detector. The Portal Sergeant asked Ms. Gillard to remove her shoes and her socks. Upon removal of her shoes there were three loose cigarettes and a cigarette lighter found in her right and left socks. Gillard was arrested by Valdosta County Sheriff’s Office.
