Contraband Arrest a Telfair State Prison
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 812 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On April 23, During a supervised canine search of vehicles entering the parking lot of Telfair State Prison, the canine alerted on a burgundy 97 Toyota Corolla driven by visitor Jermayne Wright. During the search of the car 1 blunt, 4 grams of marijuana and a loaded 45 automatic handgun was detected. Visitor Wright also had an additional loaded magazine for the handgun in the pocket of the pants he was wearing. Telfair County Sheriffs Office arrested visitor Wright and his car was towed from the premises.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
