Contraband Arrest at Telfair State Prison
As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 803 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.
On April 2, Officer Heather Kinnett could not clear the body scanner at Telfair State Prison. Officer Kinnett had two unidentifiable objects in her boots. Officer Kinnett was advised to remove her boots, and upon removal there were two touchscreen cellular phones discovered. There was one cellular phone taped inside the soles of her left boot and one cellular phone taped inside the soles of her right boot. There was no additional contraband found on Officer Kinnett or her vehicle. Officer Kennett’s vehicle was towed and she was transported to Telfair County Sherriff’s Office.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
