New Superintendent at McEver Probation Detention Center

Michael Thomas Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Michael Thomas to Superintendent at McEver Probation Detention Center (PDC) effective March 16, 2022. As Superintendent, Thomas will be responsible for overseeing all staff members and approximately 250 minimum-security male detainees.
“Thomas has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities in each position he has held with the agency,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “We are confident he will continue to excel as he takes the next steps in his professional career.”
Thomas began his career with the Department in 2010 as a Counselor at Macon State Prison (SP). In 2013, he was promoted to Chief Counselor at Central State Prison, and in 2015 he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment, where he currently serves.
Thomas earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Campbellsville University. His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Counselor Training, Basic Management Training (BMT), Deputy Warden’s Academy, Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), and Warden’s Pre-Command.
