New Deputy Warden of Security at the Special Management Unit

George Ball Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of George Ball to Deputy Warden of Security at the Special Management Unit effective February 15, 2022. As deputy warden of security, Ball will be responsible for overseeing security staff members and over 170 special mission male offenders.
“Ball has worked his way up through the ranks and demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in each position he has held,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “We are confident he will continue to do an exceptional job in carrying out the GDC mission at the Special Management Unit.”
Ball began his career with the GDC in 1997 as a Correctional Officer at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison (GDCP). During his tenure at GDCP, he was promoted though the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. In 2017, he was promoted to Unit Manager at the Special Management Unit, where he currently serves.
Bell’s departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Management I, II, and III, Basic Management Training, Supervision I, II, and III, and Advanced Management Training.
