New Deputy Warden of Security at Telfair State Prison

Veronica Stewart Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Veronica Stewart to Deputy Warden of Security at Telfair State Prison (SP) effective February 1, 2021. As Deputy Warden, Stewart will be responsible for supervising and managing approximately 227 security staff members and 1420 close security male offenders at the facility.
“Veronica is a dedicated employee who has excelled in each position she has held within the department,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “Her knowledge and expertise will be an asset to ensuring the safe and secure operation of Telfair SP.”
Stewart began her career with the GDC in 2007 as a Correctional Officer at Telfair SP. During her tenure at Telfair SP, she was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant in 2012, and Lieutenant in 2014. She was promoted to Medical Unit Manager at Calhoun SP in 2018, and in 2019, she transferred to Telfair as Unit Manager, where she currently serves.
Stewart has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Sergeants Academy, Supervision I, II and III, and Effective Communication Training.
