Reagan Black promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Reagan Black, Deputy Warden of Security at Hays State Prison (SP), to Warden at Rutledge State Prison effective December 1, 2019. As Warden, Black will be responsible for overseeing 149 staff members and 640 medium security male offenders.

“Reagan has shown exceptional leadership in each position he has held,” said Commissioner Ward. “We are confident that his experience and knowledge will benefit the staff and offenders at Rutledge State Prison.”

Black began his career with the Georgia Department of Corrections in 1993 as a Correctional Officer at Hays SP.  During his tenure at Hays SP, he was promoted to Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Chief of Security; he also served as Commander of the Tactical Squad and the Correctional Emergency Response Team.  In 2014, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Walker State Prison, and in 2016, he returned to Hays State Prison as Deputy Warden of Security, where he currently serves. 

Black has completed the following departmental training Basic Management Training, the Deputy Warden of Security Academy, the Professional Management Program, the Correctional Leadership Institute, and Executive Leadership Training.
