Execution scheduled

FORSYTH, Ga– The execution of condemned murderer Ray Jefferson Cromartie scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson was carried out on November 13, 2019, at 10:59 p.m in accordance with state law. Cromartie accepted a final prayer and did not record a final statement. Cromartie was sentenced to death in 1997 for the murder of Richard A. Slysz.

There have been 74 men and one woman executed in Georgia since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. Cromartie was the 52nd inmate put to death by lethal injection. There are presently 44 men and one woman under death sentence in Georgia.
