Tommy Bowen Reassigned

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the reassignment of Tommy Bowen to warden at Dodge State Prison (SP), effective July 1, 2019. As warden, Bowen will be responsible for overseeing approximately 200 staff members and 1,236 medium-security male offenders.

“Bowen has shown great leadership throughout his 23-year career with the department,” Ward said. “We’re certain Dodge SP will benefit from his years of knowledge.”

Bowen began his career with the department in 1996 as a correctional officer at Pulaski SP.  During his tenure at Pulaski SP, he rose through the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant and unit manager.  In 2010, he was promoted to superintendent at Bleckley Probation Detention Center.  In 2018, he was promoted to warden at Central SP, where he currently serves.

Bowen earned his Associate of Science in law enforcement and a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Thomas University.  He has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, the Professional Management Program, the Corrections Leadership Institute and Warden’s Pre-Command.
