FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is investigating the death of an inmate at Macon State Prison in Oglethorpe, Ga., as an apparent suicide.

On October 20 at approximately 6:12 p.m., Correctional Officers found inmate Brian Villa-Rivera (GDC #1001877810) unresponsive in his cell. The facility’s medical staff responded to the unit and administered CPR. Villa-Rivera was pronounced deceased at 8:22 p.m. by the Macon County Coroner. GDC is conducting an investigation into the death, as standard procedure.

Villa-Rivera was sentenced to Life in Hall County for murder.
