Kristin "Sail" Coleman Promoted

Forsyth — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Kristin “Sail” Coleman to Chief Probation Officer for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit effective November 1, 2014. Coleman will be responsible for the oversight of 30 staff members and the supervision of felony probationers in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit.   

“Kristin has demonstrated outstanding skills and professionalism,” said Commissioner Owens.  “Her knowledge and experience will serve the Brunswick Judicial Circuit well in her new role.”
                                                         
Coleman began her career with the Department in 2001 as a Probation Officer in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit. While in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit she supervised a standard and high/max caseload and served as Community Service Coordinator. In 2011, Coleman was promoted to Probation Officer III in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit, where she most recently served.

Coleman earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University. During her time with the Department she has completed the following training; Basic Management Training (BMT), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Pre-Command and Correctional Leadership Institute Training (CLI).

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
