Tim Tatum Promoted

Forsyth — Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Tim Tatum as
Administrator of the Tommy Rouse Day Reporting Center located in Waycross, Ga., effective November 1. As Administrator, Tatum is responsible for the oversight of ten staff members and 102 offenders.

“Tim is a corrections professional who has exhibited excellent leadership qualities throughout his career with the Department," said Owens. "I have full confidence in his abilities as he assumes this new role."

Tatum began his career with the Department in 1998 as a Probation Officer of the Brunswick Probation Office.
Tatum supervised all levels of probation to include; High/Max, Intensive Probation Supervision, Specialized Probation Supervision, and Substance Abuse Aftercare cases. In 2005, Tatum was promoted to Probation Officer III, working as Office Manager for both the Woodbine and Brunswick Probation Offices, where he most recently served.

Tatum graduated earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia. During his time with the Department, Tatum has completed the following courses: Crisis Intervention Training, Basic Management Training (BMT), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Wardens and Chiefs Pre-Command and the Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI). Tatum was also nominated for Probation Supervisor of the Year in 2013. Tatum is a member of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, Georgia Probation Association and the American Probation and Parole Association.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
