New Field Operations Manager of County Facilities Named

FORSYTH, Ga. — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Terry Edge as Field Operations Manager of the County Facilities effective July 1, 2014. As Field Operations Manager, Edge will oversee 23 facilities in counties across the state.
“Terry has been a valued employee of the Department for over 27 years,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “The knowledge gained from his years of experience will greatly benefit county facilities statewide.”
Edge began his career with the Department of Corrections in 1987 as a Correctional Officer at Dodge State Prison. While at Dodge State Prison, Edge also served as an Assistant Tactical Squad Commander and Backup Canine Handler. In 1991, Edge was promoted to Public Safety Training Instructor for Washington and Johnson State Prisons. Edge transferred in 1998 to the Georgia Corrections Academy where he worked with Basic Correctional Officer Training and Specialized Training. In 1997, he was promoted to Assistant Director of Special Operations and Commander of the GDC Hostage Rescue Team. He was appointed Manager of Special Operations Training Unit in 1999, and served as such until 2007 when he accepted a position as Assistant Director for the Georgia Corrections Academy (GCA). In 2009, he was promoted to Director of GCA. Edge accepted a position with the Department of Juvenile Justice in 2011 as Assistant Director of Training, but returned to the Department of Corrections in 2012 when he was appointed to Director of Audits and Compliance for the Office of Investigations and Compliance.
Edge earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology from Georgia College and State University. During his career with the Department, he completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, Probation Officer Safety Training, Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training, Corrections Leadership Institute, and Carl Vinson Leadership Institute.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
