Angie Henry Reassigned

Forsyth Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the reassignment of Angie Henry as the Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment of Smith State Prison effective May 16, 2014. As Deputy Warden, Henry will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of more than 1,540 close security male inmates at the facility located in Glennville, Georgia.

“Angie is a valuable asset to the Department with 32 years of dedicated service,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “Her leadership will greatly impact the staff and inmates at Smith State Prison.”

Henry began her career with the Department in 1982 as a Correctional Officer at Georgia State Prison. In 1995, Henry was promoted to Associate Counselor at Smith State Prison and in 1996, she was promoted to Counselor at Rogers State Prison. In 1998, Henry was promoted to Senior Counselor at Smith State Prison, and in 2007 she was promoted to Chief Counselor at Smith SP. In 2010, Henry became the Department's first Strategic Intervention Coordinator (SIP). In 2012, Henry was promoted to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Coastal State Prison, where she most recently served.

Henry received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Albany State University and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Professional Counseling from South University. She has completed Basic Management Training, Professional Management Program, Corrections Leadership Institute, and a variety of other counseling and program delivery classes.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,500 employees.
