Reagan Black Promoted

Forsyth Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Reagan Black to Deputy Warden of Security at Walker State Prison effective February 16, 2014. As the Deputy Warden, Black will be responsible for supervising and managing 97 security staff and the overall management and operation of the prison at Walker State Prison.

"Reagan is a valuable asset to the Department and is committed to helping us carry out our mission," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "We look forward to the leadership and experience he will bring to Walker State Prison," added Owens.

Black joined the Department in 1993 as a Correctional Officer at Hays State Prison. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1995 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1999 at Hays State Prison. In 2012, Black was promoted to Chief of Security at Hays State Prison, where he most recently served. In addition to his years of correctional work, Black has competed in the World Police and Fire games for 12 years, earning three gold medals and one silver medal in power lifting.

Black has completed Supervisor Level I Training, Fire Inspector Training, Tactical Basic, Tactical Squad Leadership and Pepper Ball training, Chemical Munitions, Basic Management Training and Professional Management Training.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
