New Chief Probation Officer Named For Douglas Judicial Circuit

Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Christy Thomas to Chief Probation Officer for the Douglas Judicial Circuit effective July 1, 2013. Thomas will be responsible for the oversight of 24 staff members and the supervision of felony probationers in the Douglas Judicial Circuit.
"Christy has gone above and beyond during her time here with the Department," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "I am confident that she will excel in her new role in the Douglasville Judicial Circuit."
Thomas began her career with the Department through an internship at the Athens Diversion Center during her last semester at the University of Georgia. In 2002, she became a Probation Officer at the Marietta South Probation Office and later transferred to the Douglas Judicial Circuit. In 2006, she was promoted to Probation Officer III in the Douglas Judicial Circuit where she most recently served. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia. She has completed Basic Management Training, Advance Management Training, Pre-Command and Corrections Leadership Institute.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
